Introducing two lines of Adirondack style Guideboats. The traditional wooden version and the new cottager model with a Kevlar hull and beautiful wood details (decks, gunwhales, seats, etc.). 16 feet in length, and a 40” beam. These boats are truly graceful in appearance and a joy to row. The construction of our version of the traditional wooden Guideboat requires 1500 stainless steel brads; 900 laminations; 500 brass screws and over 200 hours of hands on labour. Our kevlar boats provide grace and ease in an incredibly durable and light hull.
Guideboats were originally designed and built by the hunting and fishing guides of the late 1800s in the wilds of up-state New York. Designed
as working boats, they’re beauty is the result of form follows function. These boats had to carry two men, a dog and a deer as well as all of the duffle, yet be light enough to portage into the
back wood lakes.
These boats are so efficient that they need only ever be rowed by one person. Unlike a canoe, where you talk to the back of the bowman's head, in a Guideboat you face your partner, which lets you hold a conversation. You should, however be prepared to to be interrupted by many proclamations of "nice boat".
